Disappointing, but not surprising . . .
As we predicted, OLR management has begun their anti-union campaign. Unfortunately, we can expect management to continue spreading falsehoods and distortions. Why? OLR management wants to maintain the complete control they currently enjoy over decisions that affect us and our patients.
In any case, here are the facts:
|
What management says |
The fact is: |
| AFSCME's dues for OLR nurses will be 2% of our salary | This is false. AFSCME Council 31's dues are $35/month for full-time employees. We will pay no dues until we have approved our contract and it becomes effective. |
| AFSCME will require OLR nurses to pay initiation fees. | This is false. AFSCME Council 31 has no initiation fees. |
| If OLR nurses organize, OLR will be forced to close. | This claim is both false and illegal. OLR nurses are organizing to improve OLR- its quality and financial viability. AFSCME nurses at other hospitals have helped do just that! |
| If OLR nurses organize, we will no longer be able to talk directly with management. | This is false. OLR nurses will continue to be able to talk directly with management. But more importantly, we will have real input in the important decisions we face at work. |
| AFSCME will make Charge nurses and Team leaders fixed positions instead of being rotated. | This is false. With AFSCME, we make the decisions as to whether or not we want the current system to change and, if so, how. |
It's time for management to stop the lies and engage in serious discussion about improving our hospital. It's time for OLR nurses to win the respect we deserve.
