OLR Nurses Plan to Stand Up For
Our Rights at Work
After enduring an oppressive and Illegal anti-union campaign, we plan to continue our efforts to win a voice at work through AFSCME
Following a vote of 159-98 with 16 challenged ballots, AFSCME Council 31 will file charges with the NLRB before the election is certified.
The decision about having union representation is far too important to be made in an environment of threats, conflict and intimidation. In an effort to prevent us from having a real voice at work, management spread lies about dues, recruited doctors to tell us the hospital would close if we voted for AFSCME and harassed us about how we intended to vote. Some of us were even threatened with a loss of vacation time if we supported the union.
For years, management has refused to listen to our concerns. It was only in the weeks leading up to the election that they finally increased staffing and sent us updated information about our pensions. But we know the truth. Management only made these temporary improvements to prevent us from having a real voice at work.
Only through a union with AFSCME will we have a real voice and the ability to make permanent improvements to patient care and our work lives.
